A design proposal for a viewing area within Walthamstow Reservoirs. Through examining through drawing the edges of different bodies of water and the varying levels of artificiality between them came the proposal for a sunken viewing area embedded along the edge of a reservoir, providing views just above water level.
The design was inspired heavily by the post-war infrastructure that dominates the reservoir site in terms of materiality, while conceptually it takes cues from concrete 'Sound Mirrors' that were used in World War 2 to try and pinpoint enemy aircraft. In a comparable manner, the shelter allows visitors to pinpoint specific views from across the water, be it surrounding buildings, passing trains or the skyline of the City of London beyond.
